Tributes

I know not everyone that follows my blog is interested in the funeral work I produce, but I work hard to make my blog a "living" portfolio showing all of my current work. This helps my clients see example of what they might need at any given time.

Personalized Tribute

When I first started working on funerals I wasn't sure how I'd feel being involved in such an intimate time. I've been surprised to find that, just like with the weddings I am so much more familiar with, being included in this process is an honor. It's one of my favorite parts of my job getting to know someone and being able, through flowers, to communicate their style and interests.
These tributes were made for a sweet sweet man. He always grew sunflowers in his garden and worked as a bus driver. The thought of including buses in an arrangement was initially a bit daunting, but I had a great time honoring him through the creative process.

Whether it's a wedding, a funeral, a party or any other occasion, don't forget that we are designers as well as florists and look to you (the client) to tell us about yourself so we can make your arrangement(s) just right for you.

Beautiful Tributes

This week I worked with Day Funeral Home to create a beautiful service for one of their clients. Here are some pictures.

The first arrangement was a colorful arrangement meant for all the kids in the family. Every child had a butterfly to take home with a hand-cut heart card with the message "Jesus Loves You". What a cool idea. I thought this would be great for any type of party. You could use this idea for name tags or favors. In the beginning I was definitely concerned about all the butterflies and tags being a distraction but it turned out to be such a great success.
The other colorful arrangement was from the siblings, just bright and cheerful. I loved having creative freedom to create an arrangement perfect for the space.

The casket spray was beautiful. I used timeless choices: roses, iris, tulips, hydrangea and stock.

Katie worked on the cross, traditional white roses and variegated pitt, as well as the herbed heart with freesia accents.
I also worked on a Bible stand. All white flowers made this stand classic with a satin ribbon bookmark embellished with ivy leaves.
Lastly, I was asked to create a floral arrangement including a Classic Winnie the Pooh plush as well as a matching frame for a keepsake picture. This was way too cute and could be easily sent to a new mommy.
This was such a great experience. Thank you, Day, for making my job that much easier.

Pink Garden

Ruth loved gardening and loved the color pink so her family decided to have full pink garden arrangements for her funeral. Such a beautiful family. I hope the arrangements were just what they wanted.

Expanding My Horizons

Moving into a store front also means doing different types of floral work. For eight years now I've done only weddings and planned events. All of the sudden I working hard to get birthdays, get well arrangements and lots and lots of funeral work.

It might not seem luxurious but funeral work is a staple in florist work and if I am going to succeed I have to make sure I'm getting my piece of the pie.

This week I've been working hard on cutting into the market. Here are a couple arrangements I made this week.

I look forward to doing more of this as well as all the other fun stuff, like new baby arrangements, and "I'm sorry I screwed up" arrangements for all those men we know and love.

Please think of me next time you need a unique gift, or something special for someone you care about. I hope to be a resource to give a little love where it's needed.
